In 2027, DSNA will award small grants to support practical or scholarly lexicographic projects by independent researchers, dictionary makers, and early-career scholars.

The awards will be directed toward existing projects for which a small grant would make a substantial difference in achieving a more advanced stage or reaching completion. The grants may be used to purchase necessary resources, including research travel. Projects regarding any facet of lexicography are eligible, including but not limited to dictionaries or glossaries of any language or languages
(including indigenous or minority languages) as well as scholarship on dictionaries or lexicography of any language or era. DSNA will make one or two awards, up to $2,500 each.

Applicants should prepare:

      1. a description (not to exceed 1,200 words) of the overall project, indicating what has been accomplished to date, what remains to be completed, and what the solicited funds would cover or enable;
      2. a list of other sources of support for the project that have been secured or are on request, if any;
      3. a curriculum vitae or resume.

Applicants need not be DSNA members, but award winners must join the organization in order to receive funding. Submit applications by email attachment, with the subject line DSNA AWARD APPLICATION, to DSNAAward@gmail.com. Applications are due by October 1, 2026, and winners will be announced in November. Recipients will be asked to furnish a brief report (250-500 words) on the progress of the project by December 31, 2027, for publication in the DSNA newsletter.
